Emergence Traps

The emergence traps collect insects from the pupal stage in soil, plant tissue, or water.  As the adult insect emerges, the insect crawls or flies up through a funnel into a collection container that prevents adult insects from escaping. Emergence traps may be used in particular groups of insects, such as aquatic insects (aquatic beetles, dragonflies, mayflies, caddisflies), or other soil emergence insects (soil-dwelling flies, scoliid wasps, ground beetles).
