This traditional Malaise trap offers a cost‑effective alternative for biodiversity monitoring. Sewn from durable black no‑see‑um mesh, it captures small insects efficiently while maintaining the core Townes‑style design. Each trap includes a 500 ml collection bottle for passive insect sampling without bait.
Malaise traps are widely used in biodiversity surveys because they efficiently intercept flying insects. Cost has long been a concern compared to other trapping methods, so this economical version emphasizes quality sewing and material efficiency. Its interception panel measures 165 × 110 cm (5.4 × 3.6 ft) and is constructed of black Polyester no‑see‑um mesh (96 × 26 mesh per square inch), fine enough to retain minute insects such as parasitic wasps.
When trays with killing agents are placed beneath the central panel, the trap can also serve as a flight interception trap (FIT) or window trap, collecting insects such as beetles that fall after impact. The trap head holds a 500 ml collection bottle, which can be unscrewed easily for sample removal.
※ Tent pegs, guy ropes, and support poles required for trap installation are not included. Please order trap installation kits if needed.
